Detailed Description of the Fast WhoIs Application

Using the Clipboard:

Fast WhoIs can read the Clipboard at defined intervals of time.
Notice the "Read Clipboard Text Every X sec" check box.
If this check box is unchecked then the Clipboard will not be read anymore.
The last Clipboard text is automatically shown in the "Last String in Clipboard" combo box.
You can set a timer for the Clipboard read process by setting a value in the Number Box near the check box.

The second check box "Run WhoIs Query Every Y sec" is used to set On/Off the WhoIs query process for an item (which can be a domain/IP) in Queue.
If this check box is unchecked then the WhoIs query process will be disabled.
The Queue is a structure holding the items read from the Clipboard at certain time intervals.
Notice that the Clipboard text is automatically inserted into the Queue.
The Queue will not store consecutive Clipboard text reads which return the same string.
For example if you set the Clipboard text read process at 1 second interval then most likely the Clipboard will return the same string for a few seconds (until you put something else into the Clipboard)
So the Queue will only store only different consecutive Clipboard text reads.
You can also add items in the Queue by: adding them one by one or by importing them. Among the items manually added or imported you can have similar consecutive strings.

The buttons at the right of the Clipboard combo box are used to:
- Start the WhoIs Query process
- Stop the WhoIs Query process
- Remove an item from the Clipboard combo box. Not from the Queue.
- Import items into the Clipboard combo box for later usage. Notice that this will NOT import items into the Queue. Use the button to manage the Queue.
- Export items from the Clipboard combo box (NOT from the Queue).
- Clear all the items from the Clipboard combo box (NOT from the Queue).

- Clears the Clipboard text
- Opens the Queue Window to manage the Queue.

Using the Whois Servers:

Fast Whois has a built in list of Whois servers which are written to disk the first time the program starts. This list can also be written again to disk every time the user wants by right clicking the default Whois servers button and selecting the context menu which appears there.
The Whois servers can be entered in the "Select Whois server" combo box. To manually enter a URL of a Whois server (Ex: whois.tucows.com) you should leave (press TAB to loose focus of the) the combo box. This will store the Whois server in the combo box if its not already there.
Whois servers can also be imported into the Whois combo box by pressing the button. The export process writes a Whois server URL per line in the output file. Whois servers can be exported from the Whois combo box by pressing the button.
Pressing the button will fill the Whois servers combo box with the default servers which were written to disk the first time the program started. You can modify this default list manually by adding more Whois servers to be considered as the Default Whois servers.
A Whois server can be configured by pressing the button.
The radio buttons are used to:
- If the first one is checked then the Whois Query considers only the URL which is shown in the Whois server combo box (one server)
- If the second one is checked checked the Whois Query considers all the URLs entered in the Whois server combo box (all available servers in the list)
This means that if at least two Whois servers are selected for the query process then the domain is queried against those Whois servers. The result is of course added to the result list.

The buttons are used to:
- Start the WhoIs Query process. The same as the one from the Clipboard section (provided here for flexibility)
- Stop the WhoIs Query process. The same as the one from the Clipboard section (provided here for flexibility)
- Remove an item from the Whois servers combo box.
- Import items from a file into the Whois servers combo box for later usage.
- Export items to a file from the Whois servers combo box.
- Clear all the items from the Whois servers combo.
- Configure the selected (shown) Whois server from the Whois servers combo box.
- Loads the default Whois servers into the Whois servers combo box.

Using the Results Section:

The Whois results section controls how the results are handled:
- results can be appended to the results list. Or the result list can always be cleared before a new query result is shown.
- results can be appended to a selected file. Or the file contents can be cleared before a new query result is added to the file.
-
The Whois query result buttons are used to:
- Control if a pop-up tray notification should appear when the application is minimized.
- Import results from a file (or if there is a selected file then import from that file).
- Export results to a file (or if there is a selected file then export to that file).
- Clears the Whois query result field.
- Browse a file on your computer in which to import/export the Whois query results.
- Opens the selected (browsed) file in which the Whois query results have been imported/exported.
